David Berlow entered the type industry in 1978 as a letter designer for Mergenthaler, Linotype, Stempel, and Haas typefoundries. He joined the newly formed digital type supplier, Bitstream, Inc. in 1982. After Berlow left Bitstream in 1989, he founded The Font Bureau, Inc. with Roger Black. In 1994 he founded Interactive Bureau with Black and others. In 2008 he founded Webtype with Petr van Blokland and others, and with Font Bureau and other foundries created Type Network.

Making Plain Type for a complicated world. Type design and typography function today in a world where the technology of OS platforms seems to change via evolution while the technology of the web seems to change by revolution. Fonts need to be made that work for both. And fonts need to be designed too, that work for both.
