“The Shape of Space"
The letters of a typeface are drawn with contours. Each contour is an edge, where two shapes meet. One shape is black and the other shape is white. With practice, you can learn to draw with an awareness of both shapes at once. This workshop consists of exercises to develop your sensitivity to shapes of all kinds, especially the white shapes. Their roots are in classic contour drawing exercises as well as activities Cyrus Highsmith uses in his type design classes at Rhode Island School of Design.
