Topic 1 “Sans serif & Serif fonts for Khmer”

Before 1900, we can see serif type of Khmer letter only, with the "hair" of letter look like waves. The letter is very beautiful, it seems that letters were drawn or painted, not written. So how about small children can learn? They have to learn painting or drawing before learning Khmer script? It is problem for today, but not for those day. Why?

Look at old Cambodia education system, before French colony, 1880, we don't have public school for children from 6 year old as today, we have only school at pagoda look like "internal school" and the Khmer boy from 13 to 16 year old can stay at pagoda and learn. The age between 13 to 16 years old have no problem about writing beautiful letters.

From French colony, Cambodia has public school for children from 6 year old, so the educator here have to think about Sans Serif style of letter with combine of square and circle for easy to write.

Topic 2: “Font for console (for Natural Language Processing)”

We hear about monospace, but many asian scripts cannot be created with the same width for all letters. However, make none-latin text display on console is also interesting, for example, we test the programming function for natural language processing.

We are building application for Thai/Lao/Khmer spellcheck, and we want to see our first function for recognize the words, it works correctly or not? It is good to see the result shortly on console or programming editor tool.
