Get your hands dirty as we travel through time and space and learn how to latin alphabets were drawn from Roman time to 21st century. Instead of focusing on making perfect lettering of the whole alphabet, we will analyze 2-3 essential characters, see evolution of the forms and how the tools influence each style. Participants will get to try various lettering tools such as quills, brushes, broad metal nibs, pointed pens, ruling pens, and markers.
Equipment requirements for participants:
1. The essential calligraphy tools, ink/paint, and paper will be provided by instructor.
2. Participants are welcome to bring any calligraphy pen, brushes, and paper they have to try in the class.
3. We will be using paint and ink which may get messy. Please bring an apron or an old t-shirt to protect your clothes.
4. Printed summary will be provided by instructor. Participants are welcome to take notes.
